Lion Dance Troupe
I began lion dancing at the age of seven when I was learning gung fu with Shaolin Sifu Tihm Yuen Wong.
Seven years later I was lion dancing and learning gung fu with Lup Mo Gung Fu Studio under Choy Li Fut Sifu Bing Chan. After over two years, Sifu Bing Chan passed away, I moved onto lion dancing and practicing gung fu with Hung Ga Sifu Y. C. Wong. I now consider myself retired from lion dancing though my Sifu still have me go with the group to lion dance. I still try to manage to practice my gung fu and Chen Taiji.
In a lion dance there is usually a cheng (which means green in Cantonese) or an offering to the lion which basically consists of green lettuce and tangerine or oranges. And of course Lei Sih, many offerings in a red envelope. To get the cheng is called "choi cheng". The cheng can be set in formations or puzzles for the lion dancers to figure out. It is also for the entertainment of the audience as well. This particular formation is in a crab shape. The oranges symbolize the eyes. The knifes symbolize the pincers. There is a certain way for the lion to approach a crab formation. First it must disable the crab's claws and then devour the eyes. Flipping over the basin for the real treat $$$...*DOK DOONG CHANG!*
